Methodology
You'll notice a difference from the start - we won't begin by talking websites and technology, but what your company does!A successful website or print piece hinges on so much more than merely aesthetics. Careful analysis of consumer wants and needs coupled with strategic execution is critical to the delivery of a successful product. At Davlin Consulting, our methodology marries targeted marketing goals with the best that design has to offer.
- We’ll take a look at your product, service, concept, or ideas. What are you hoping to promote? What features do you need? What benefits does your service or product bring to your potential customer? Once this is established, we can begin your framework for a successful site.
- We’ll find out who are your current customers, and what is your target market. They may not be the same! What are the things that are important to them? What "style" do they respond to? Classic? Eclectic? Grunge? What issues does your product or service solve for them? What need or want can your product fulfill?
- We’ll do some research on your competition. What can you offer your customers that they can't or don't? Why should your customers prefer to deal with you? This method helps to establish your USP (Unique Selling Proposition); The thing that sets you apart from everybody else in your line of business.
- We’ll determine the goal of the website. Exactly what action do you want your site visitors to take? Do you want them to place an order? Join your email newsletter? Generate a sales inquiry? They must do SOMETHING. What are the primary and secondary objectives?
- We’ll choose key search phrases. This process may establish 10-20 potential "search phrases" or words that your ideal visitor might use to find your product in a search engine like Google or Bing. We establish these from the beginning so that they can be worked into the text, headings and navigation links on your site. Take a look at our SEO services for more information.
- We’ll come up with a great design with usability. We’ll establish the look and feel, design the structure and navigation while complying with accepted usability standards.
- We’ll input the text. Whether you or we write the words, we'll start with some of your existing marketing material and polish it with what we have learned from all the steps above. Then we'll read it again and fix it and polish it some more.
- We’ll choose the images. Carefully chosen photography must enhance your message or inform in its own right. Be cautious! Flashing clipart does not sell. Animations of letters shooting into an email graphic don't make me want to email you! Animation should be used judiciously and kept to a minimum. Why? Because they distract visitors from your message.
- We’ll build and code. Then and only then does page construction and back end coding begin.
- We’ll test. We’ll test for browser compatibility, security, navigation, forms, links and database programming.
- We’ll revise where necessary as a result of the usability test and client feedback.
- We’ll go live!
- We’ll do some acceptance testing and modification. This is usually a short period after launch in which the client may ask for modifications (but not major changes outside of the original scope) at no charge.
These high-level phases all depend on numerous deliverables and milestones to move the project forward. To help us fully understand your expectations, and to help you organize your thoughts, we have designed a web design worksheet. Please fill this out, leaving anything you are unsure of blank. We'll help you with the rest.
